"Utilitarian luxury” is the kind of industry jargon that people like me love to hate, but it’s a pretty accurate descriptor of what Hydrogen-1′s line of footwear is like.
The San Francisco Company was born from a simple problem that founder Hero Nakatani faced: he could never find shoes that were comfortable like sneakers, yet office-appropriate enough to to play dress up with suits. This dilemma resulted in Italian-made hybrids of classic dress shoe silhouettes that utilize rubber sneaker soles — not unlike Common Projects, but at much more accessible price points.
Needless to say, everything looks really damn good. From classic brogues to Chelsea boots, the collection is crafted with premium calfskin in Italy. Check out the color blocked hi-top, with a matted insert at the quarter-panel that gives it an edgy luxury vibe when paired with some dark denim.
Check some of them out below and hit up Hydrogen-1 for more info and additional models in the lineup.
